Oklahoma Athletic Center Chooses TuffStuff to Overhaul 25,000 sq ft Athletic Facility
We’d like to thank the managers and new owners of the Oklahoma Athletic Center (OAC) Fitness & Performance for choosing TuffStuff’s commercial strength equipment to overhaul their beautiful specialty fitness training center in Oklahoma City.
The former Oklahoma City Tennis Center, known as Lighthouse Sports & Fitness Center, recently underwent an extensive makeover by its new owners, Ice Capital and Skybridge Real Estate.
The 12-acre complex at 3333 W Hefner, spanning 100,000 square feet and built in 1975, was purchased by the new owners last July. And soon after they set about overhauling the 25,000 square-foot athletic facility, renamed as Oklahoma Athletic Center Fitness & Performance. (Read the Oklahoman Article >)
The team at OAC explored various commercial fitness equipment options before connecting with TuffStuff’s National Commercial Sales Manager, Lyon Alizna. Given the shear size of the facility, Alizna went straight to work designing 3D models and aligning all of the project’s various stakeholders. The 3D videos produced are some of the largest TuffStuff has ever created, often taking 5-6 hours to render the videos into a viewable format. TuffStuff also provided detailed drawings of the equipment, including plans for a 60-foot half rack that includes 11 workout stations.
The plan was to entirely customize OAC’s order so that all of the fitness equipment would be painted royal blue and include “OAC” embroidered upholstery. But during the process TuffStuff’s manufacturing team took it a step further, designing completely new Proformance Plus handles with multiple grip placements that closely resemble OAC’s logo.
The single most ambitious part of the project was the custom 60-foot half rack. The massive royal blue rack includes 11 workout stations: TRX suspension training stations, Jammer Arm stations, as well as half racks with built-in Olympic weight plate storage. The rack is topped off with custom 3D laser cut Oklahoma Athletic Center logos. Crafted from a reinforced 7-gauge steel frame, all of TuffStuff half racks are built to handle years of heavy use.
Once OAC’s order was placed, TuffStuff had just 4.5 weeks to manufacturer, customize, ship, and install the new equipment by December 5th. In doing so, OAC would unveil the completely renovated gym to members just in time to use the facility over the holidays, and to kick off their New Year’s Resolutions. The entire team at TuffStuff pitched in to ensure the deadline would be met. Below you can see photos of TuffStuff’s assembly department test-fitting OAC’s machines before the shipment leaves for Oklahoma.
The Last Mile
On December 3rd, the Oklahoma Athletic Center’s new cardio equipment was installed. This left just two days to assemble the new 60-foot half rack in addition to 54 other TuffStuff strength pieces. The installation team worked overtime to meet the deadline, and the final result exceeded all expectations.
“We’re honored to be a part of this project,” Alizna said. “At TuffStuff, we too believe that ‘elite’ is not a representation of superiority, but a mindset, a self-selected standard of excellence. And we are thrilled Oklahoma Athletic Center chose TuffStuff’s Pro-XL Racks, Proformance Plus Functional Trainers, Selectorized Machines, Free Weight Storage Racks and Benches.”
“The completed renovation includes all new state-of-the-art fitness and cardio equipment, indoor turf, and a modernized floor plan that offers an experience to fit needs ranging from personal and small group training, group exercise classes, and strength and conditioning for athletes of all ages and levels,” said Steve Lackmeyer, Oklahoman
